What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine is the use of herbs from various parts of the world for the purpose of bringing about healing in the patient. Dolly uses her modern medical training and skills in her practice to select the most effective herbs for her patients. Her extensive training in Ayurveda, the traditional medical system of India, is used to inform her current approach, that of up to date science.

What does a consultation involve?

The background of the patient’s condition is assessed through a thorough case history, taking account of current medication, family history, personal health history and lifestyle choices.

Where necessary a physical examination is carried out and if necessary blood pressure is taken. The patient's vitality and constitution is assessed to further inform the choice of herbs in the prescription. For this reason, prescriptions may vary substantially between individual patients presenting with apparently similar conditions.

These herbs may be prescribed in a variety of forms, most commonly a tincture or tea and these are primarily sourced from my own herbal dispensary. However it may also involve buying them from some other reputable source and I will advise on where to do this.

Herbal treatment is commonly backed up by appropriate advice on lifestyle changes and a focus placed on nutrition.
